Antique Tanker

1946 Ford Tanker

In 1951, many homes in Upper Merion were still beyond the reach of fire hydrants but the members had an idea for the solution, a water tanker! Tose, Inc. donated a 1946 Ford chassis; Alan Wood donated the steel, Welding Engineers fabricated the tank and fenders, Stanley Mateja Garage donated the painting and Kunda Sign Company donated the lettering on the truck. This then produced a 1400-gallon water tanker truck. In all, the company spent a total of $89 on the building the tanker in 1951. Fast forward to 2012, the tanker was being stored at the Schuylkill County Firemans Historical Society. After being replaced in 1963 by the ALF Engine, the tanker was sold to Community Fire Company of Landingville. The Tanker served Landingville from 1963 up till 19??.  Members began to show intrest in bringing the tanker home in early 2012 after learning the Society was runnng low on space. By late summer, after many trips and phone calls, the tanker was on a roll back and coming back to Swedesburg on August 11, 2012. Members worked tiredless and were able to get the truck restored to near orginal apperance by the 2012 Pa State Firemens Convention in Norristown in September of that year. To this day the tanker is still owned and used at special events and parades by the company.
