Become a Member

Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company is always looking for more members. But if you join SVFC that does not mean you have to be a firefighter. Below are the types of membership you can apply for and what you can do in them. To join you can ask the bartender at the bar when it is open or stop by during our training on Monday at 6:45 pm.

Active Member:

Active members are members that are 18 years or older and are interested in running calls for SVFC. There are many different types of active member you can be. All class expenses to become an active member are supported by the company within reason.

  • Structural Fire Fighting
    • You can become a structural firefighter by obtaining a certification in your Firefighter 1 which entails Introduction to the Fire Service, Fire Ground Support, Exterior Firefighter, Interior Firefighter, and a National certification test along with First Aid/CPR and Hazmat Operations.
  • Water Rescue
    • You can become a Water Rescuer by becoming certified in Water Rescue Emergency Responder.
  • Fire Police
    • You can become a fire policeman which requires you to earn a certification in Fire Police and being sworn in by the Township. 
  • Administrative
    • Help in the business end of running the company during the day to day operations. 
Live- In Member:

Junior Member:

Junior members are members that are interested in being an active member but are under 18 years of age and over 15 years old. They will be allowed to attend training in the station, will be surrounded by many experienced members, and will be supported through the training process to get certified in what they are interested in. 

Social Member:

Social members are members who are active in events, fundraisers, and activities ran by the company.
