Late Morning Trash Truck Fire
Wed. Mar 21st 2018

Yesterday shortly after 10:00 Am. Station 49 was dispatched to the area of Crooked Ln and Church St. for a reported trash truck fire. A passerby had noticed a trash truck in a parking lot that was smoking. Pipeline and Chief 49 (J. Recupido) with a crew of 3 responded and had smoke showing from a mile out. Upper Merion Township Police Department arrived on scene and corrected the address to E. Church Rd and Crooked Ln. This would put the incident in Station 48's (Swedeland Volunteer Fire Company) first due response area. Station 48 was dispatched and both Pipeline and Squirt 49 continued to respond in. The Pipeline arrived to find that the trash truck operator had dumped his load in the parking lot. Crews from 49 and 48 worked together to extinguish the pile of trash and what was left inside the truck. Upper Merion Township Public Works Department assisted with a machine to help pull the pile of trash apart. The scene was turned over to the trash company and a private clean up crew once the fire was extinguished. Both 48 and 49 units went available around 11:00 AM.
