This morning at 1:00 AM Pipeline 49 was dispatched as part of the 2nd Alarm Assignment to assist Station 43 (Plymouth Fire Company No. 1 (Montco 43)) at the working commercial building fire at Carfagno Chevrolet on Ridge Pike. First arriving crews had heavy fire throughout the service area in the rear of the building. Pipeline and Chief 49 (J. Recupido) responded with a crew of 4; Traffic 49 also responded. Upon arrival, Pipeline 49 reversed laid a 2400’ supply line from t...he scene to the hydrant at Fairfield and Sandy Hill Roads. Working with units from the Eastern LDH Task Force, Pipeline 49 pumped water to the scene for 3 hours. 49 Units were clear around 5:00 AM.
Unfortunately, during the course of the operation, a civilian motor vehicle drove around the barricades at Sandy Hill Rd. striking the supply line and causing injury to one of our firefighters. The injured firefighter was transported by Plymouth Community Ambulance Association - Medic 308 to Einstein Montgomery where they underwent treatment for a leg injury. The firefighter has since been discharged from the hospital but will undergo further testing and evaluation. The Officers and Members of Swedesburg Vol. Fire Co. would like to remind the public that it is illegal and dangerous to run over fire hose. In Pennsylvania the fine for running over fire hose is punishable with a minimum of a $200 fine. While in this case only one firefighter was injured by the struck hose line, a charged hose line can burst; possibly causing injury or death not only to firefighters near the hose line, but those that are actively engaged in fire suppression that are dependent on that water supply. We also ask the public to obey Fire Police lines and Road Closed signs as they are there not just for our safety, but yours as well.
